Film Director Services
Creative vision shaped by the rich storytelling of Peruvian cinema.
Peruvian cinema has won global acclaim through directors like Claudia Llosa. Her work explores where indigenous culture meets the modern world, set against Peru's striking geography. Peruvian filmmaking draws on thousands of years of Andean storytelling. The result feels both deeply rooted and widely resonant.
Our network spans production services in Lima, Cusco, and across the country. Peru's range of locations is remarkable: the Andes and Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, Lima's Pacific coastline, and the Nazca desert. Each one gives directors rare visual variety for shoots that need truly unique settings.

On Location
Directors shaped by Peru's auteur tradition and three-ecosystem location range
Peruvian cinema's standing rests with a directing community led by Claudia Llosa. Her Milk of Sorrow won the Berlinale Golden Bear and earned an Academy Award nomination, and her earlier Madeinusa took the Sundance World Cinema Special Jury Prize. Francisco Lombardi built a long career across La Boca del Lobo and Caídos del Cielo. Javier Fuentes-León's Contracorriente won the Sundance Audience Award in 2009, the first Peruvian feature to do so. Joel Calero made Cielo Oscuro, while Daniel and Diego Vega shot Octubre and El Mudo, both Cannes Un Certain Regard selections. Salvador del Solar directed Magallanes, and Melina León's Canción sin nombre earned a 2019 Cannes Directors' Fortnight selection. Óscar Catacora's Aymara-language Wiñaypacha was the first feature made in Aymara. Augusto Tamayo and the Armando Robles Godoy heritage anchor the lineage.
Our director roster reflects that range. It includes feature directors with credits at Festival de Lima at PUCP, Festival al Este, Premios Luces, Cannes, Sundance, and Berlinale. Alongside them are documentary, advertising, and emerging streaming-first directors who work with Tondero Producciones, Big Bang Films, Inca Producciones, Cinesphere, and Maretazo Cine. We match candidates by genre instinct, visual style, altitude and Amazon-logistics experience, and production scale.
On the production side, our directors work across Lima as the main base. That base covers Miraflores, Barranco, San Isidro, and the Cinesphere production hub. They also shoot on location at Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley with Ollantaytambo and Pisac, Cusco at 3,400 metres, the Colca Canyon, and Arequipa's white-stone colonial centre. The range extends to the Nazca Lines, the Pacific coastline from Chincha to Trujillo, and the Amazon basin around Iquitos and Tambopata. This work is backed by PromPerú's Film Commission, DAFO funding rounds under Ley 26370, the Lima Film Office, and the Cusco Film Commission.
Non-Spanish-speaking directors are paired with bilingual first ADs and production managers, so creative intent carries cleanly into the set culture of Peruvian crews. These crews work without formal union limits and run flexible 12-14 hour shoot days, at day rates that beat Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina. Cinematographers in the Inti Briones style, editors in the Eric Williams and Gianfranco Annichini lineage who cut Asu Mare and Milk of Sorrow, and production designers carrying Susana Torres's mantle are all ready through the network. Ibermedia and bilateral treaty co-production routes are set up for Argentina, Spain, and Brazil partners, with Ministerio de Cultura compliance built into the workflow.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a film director do?
A film director in Peru leads a production's creative vision. Peru is one of South America's most visually varied countries. The PromPerú Film Commission backs directors on features, documentaries, and global shoots drawn to Peru's striking landscapes.
What skills should a director have?
Directors in Peru need skill in high-altitude and remote-location filming. Cusco sits at 3,400 meters, and Amazon shoots call for special logistics. It also helps to know Peru's flexible setup, with no unions and 12-14 hour days.
What types of productions need a director?
Peru serves global features, documentaries, adventure content, commercials, and branded shoots. Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and the Amazon draw shoots after truly unique settings. Lima offers a modern urban base with a Pacific coastline.
How do you match a director to my production?
We review your project's creative needs and suggest directors skilled in Peru's varied production settings. Our team sets up meetings in Lima and builds production plans for remote locations.
Can a director also handle writing or editing?
Peruvian directors often fill several creative roles, given the size of the industry. On larger global shoots, we bring in dedicated department heads beside the director. Our team builds the right crew for Peru's unique conditions.
