SCENE 01 / LOOK DEVELOPMENT
Look Development
Creative visual style development and LUT creation for distinctive cinematic aesthetics that define your production's unique identity.
Look development sets a production's visual style and color mood before principal photography begins. Through tests with cameras, lenses, lighting, and LUTs, it builds reference images and tech specs. These guide the whole shoot toward one unified look.
We support look development by running camera tests, building LUTs, and pairing your cinematographer with your colorist. Our team books testing facilities and gear so the look is defined and logged early. It is then ready to guide steady image capture from day one.

On Location
Visual style and LUT design for Peruvian shoots
Look development happens before the first day of principal photography. It sets the look that every later choice — camera, lens, lighting, wardrobe, location — is measured against.
For shoots in Peru, that means testing against the real palettes you meet on the ground. These include the warm adobe and stone of Cusco colonial walls and Sacred Valley terracing, the desaturated grey-blues of Lima's coastal fog known locally as garúa, and the saturated turquoise of Máncora and Paracas Pacific water. They also include the deep emerald-and-black canopy of the Madre de Dios rainforest, the silver-white altiplano light around Lake Titicaca and Puno, and the dramatic vermilion oxides of Rainbow Mountain. Our colorists run camera and lens tests with the cinematographer at Cinesphere DI Lima, Tondero Post, or on practical-location scouts. They develop many look options on sample footage and refine the chosen direction until the visual brief is settled with the director and DP.
The development output is more than a single LUT. It is a complete style guide that includes tracking LUTs for set-side reference on Peruvian shoots, dailies LUTs for the post pipeline running through Audiovisual Project Perú Post or La Mecha Post, a base CDL for the colorist to start from in the final grade, and written notes that log the creative intent behind each decision. This guide travels with the shoot from pre-production through wrap-out. It keeps the DP, on-set DIT, dailies colourist, and final-grade colorist all aligned on the same target.
References can be drawn from today's Peruvian canon: Inti Briones's work with Claudia Llosa, recent Festival de Lima selections from PUCP, the visual languages of Lombardi or Mario Bassino, photography, or early concept art. But the deliverable is always a distinctive look tuned to the story and footage in front of us, never a derivative copy.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
When should we start look development?
Ideally you start during pre-production. Early look development lets you run tracking LUTs on set, keep dailies steady, and align every department on the visual direction. However, we can also build looks during post-production if needed.
What do you need to create a look?
We work best with sample footage from your camera tests or early production. Visual references such as films, photographs, and artwork help, along with mood boards and a talk through your creative goals. The more we learn about your story and vision, the better we can serve your project.
How do LUTs work in production?
We create tracking LUTs that apply to camera feeds and dailies, so everyone on set sees a preview of the intended look. These tech LUTs are tuned for different displays and viewing setups. They still keep the full dynamic range in your RAW footage.
Can you match a specific film or reference look?
We can study and recreate the look and feel of your references, though we make our own version rather than an exact copy. Our goal is to learn what draws you to those references, then craft a distinctive look that fits your story and footage.
