SCENE 01 / UNDERWATER CAMERA OPERATORS

Underwater Filming Services

Certified underwater cinematography for marine, pool, and aquatic productions across Peru.

Scroll

Underwater camera operators combine professional diving certification with cinema camera expertise to capture footage beneath the surface. In Peru, operators work along the rich Pacific coastline, in Lake Titicaca's high-altitude freshwater environment, and in the Amazon basin's river systems, delivering diverse subaquatic imagery across extraordinary ecosystems.

We connect you with certified underwater camera professionals experienced in Peru's unique aquatic environments — from the Humboldt Current's marine life to the world's highest navigable lake. We coordinate waterproof housing, lighting, safety divers, and logistics so your underwater sequences are captured safely.

On Location

Certified dive cinematography across Pacific, Titicaca, and Amazon waters

Here is how this works in practice. Dive shooting in Peru works across three distinct water bands that almost no other country can match in a single production schedule — the cold, plankton-rich Humboldt Today's off the Paracas peninsula and Ballestas Islands where sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and dense marine life concentrate; the high-altitude freshwater of Lake Titicaca at 3,812m where reduced-pressure dive tables and dry-suit protocols apply; and the black-water Amazon tributaries around Puerto Maldonado in Madre de Dios where pink river dolphins, caiman, and submerged-forest sequences play out in low-visibility tannic water.

Here is the short of it. Our operators hold PADI Divemaster or Instructor ratings, SSI equivalents, and where the brief demands it, commercial CMAS Three-Star or HSE-equivalent qualifications, with documented logbooks across all three environments. Pool and tank work is delivered through Lima's San Isidro, Miraflores, and La Molina pool venues for controlled fashion, commercial, music-video, and stunt-coordinated narrative sequences with trained water-safety coordinators on standby.

Here is the breakdown. Camera packages standardise around Nauticam, Gates, and SeaSeed housings for ARRI Alexa Mini LF, RED Komodo and V-Raptor, and Sony Venice 2 and FX6 bodies — typically imported under SUNAT ATA carnets and cleared through customs in advance of the shoot date, with deposit and bond paperwork handled inside the production budget. Underwater lighting runs through Keldan 8X and Light & Motion Sola packages for marine work, plus larger HMI-in-housing rigs for tank and pool setups.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Every dive is preceded by a documented risk assessment, a written dive plan, surface support, and a certified safety diver in the water alongside the camera op. Marine work inside Paracas National Reserve needs SERNANP authorisation, Lake Titicaca shoots clear through regional autoridad nacional del agua paperwork, and Amazon tributary access is set up with riverboat operators out of Puerto Maldonado who handle gear transport, lodging, and dive logistics for multi-day expeditions.

FAQ

Professional Underwater Operations

What certifications do your underwater operators hold?

Our underwater camera operators hold professional PADI, CMAS, or equivalent certifications appropriate for the filming depths and conditions. Many hold specialist underwater cinematography certifications and have HSE or equivalent commercial diving qualifications for complex productions.

What camera systems can you use underwater?

We operate underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. Housing selection depends on your camera package, required features, and depth requirements. We also use specialized underwater cinema cameras.

Can you film with actors underwater?

Yes. We work with trained water safety coordinators and provide actor coaching for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers. Complex underwater stunts require specialized coordination and safety planning.

What locations in Peru are suitable for underwater filming?

Peru offers diverse underwater filming locations: Pacific (clear water, marine life), Pacific coast (dramatic conditions), lakes and rivers (freshwater environments), and numerous studio tanks and pools for controlled shoots.

How do you handle underwater lighting?

We use specialized underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can penetrate effectively. Deep or murky water requires dedicated underwater lighting packages planned during pre-production.

What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?

All underwater work requires risk assessments, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency protocols. We comply with Peruvian diving regulations and film industry safety standards. Complex sequences may require hyperbaric chamber standby.

Productions in Peru that need this often pair it with Steadicam & Gimbal Operators, Director of Photography Services, and Multi-Camera Shoots for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Underwater Lighting and Camera & Cinematography.
