Gaffer & Lighting Services Peru

Professional gaffers and lighting crews with expertise in LED, HMI, and tungsten systems. From intimate interviews to large-scale nighttime shoots across Peru.

Scroll

The gaffer and lighting team turn the Director of Photography's vision into working lighting setups on set. In Peru, gaffers work at Lima's production sites and on location. Their range runs from the Andes highlands around Cusco to the Amazon basin. They handle the harsh high-altitude light and Peru's mixed weather.

Our team builds skilled gaffer and lighting crews to match your production's scale, style, and tech needs. We source gear through Lima rental houses and suppliers. We also handle crew availability, gear sourcing, and department logistics, so your lighting team shows up fully ready.

Peruvian gaffers calibrated for 220V/60Hz mains and Andean altitude

Peruvian lighting departments build around the gaffer (jefe de eléctricos). A best boy electric and a tiered crew of electricistas support the role. They handle set lighting, dimmer-board running, power packs operation, and on-set changes through the shooting day.

Our gaffers come up through the Lima production economy. They work with Tondero, Cinesphere, Audiovisual Project Perú, América Televisión, Latina, and the wider agency commercial market. Their credits span feature work with Claudia Llosa, Salvador del Solar, Joel Calero, and Daniel Vega, plus Netflix and HBO Max Latin-America series. Inbound commercial shoots book through the capital as the regional production hub.

Gear comes from Lima rental partners. The kit covers ARRI SkyPanel S60 and S30, plus Aputure Nova P600c, 1200d, and 600x COB for fast-deploy work. Mole-Richardson tungsten covers period looks, Litepanels Gemini gives softer sources, and Astera Titan and Helios tubes handle practicals and pixel-mapped looks. It all runs on the Peruvian 220V/60Hz mains standard, which sets our power apart from neighbouring Andean countries.

Crew matching depends on altitude and weather as much as creative aims. Cusco and Sacred Valley shoots sit at 2,800-4,000m, which strains HMI starting and ballast performance. Low air pressure hurts arc-lamp ignition, so our gaffers carry altitude-rated ballasts. They also plan staged warm-up cycles and guard against condensation when gear moves between altitude and lower ground. LED-first lighting plans further cut reliance on HMI in the worst-hit ranges.

Amazon basin work around Puerto Maldonado needs humidity protection, dust covers, and silica-gel kit rotation on multi-week shoots. Pacific coast Lima work runs at 70-90% humidity all year and through the May-November garúa fog season. Pre-production covers detailed lighting plots and power checks against 220V/60Hz mains. It also plans silent power packs rentals and tech scouts across the capital sound stages and exteriors. Crews work under DAFO-accredited contracts where they apply. We add IGV 18% and handle INC heritage-site planning when we shoot near Sacred Valley or Cusco colonial centre permits.

FAQ

Our Lighting Network

What does a gaffer do on set?

The gaffer heads the electrical and lighting department and carries out the DP's lighting vision. They design lighting setups, manage the electric crew, set up gear, and keep power distribution safe across the production.

What crew positions are in a lighting department?

A full lighting department has a Gaffer (department head), a Best Boy Electric (the gaffer's assistant, who manages crew and gear), and Electricians or Sparks who set up and run the lights. Larger shoots also add Rigging Gaffers and Generator Operators.

Do your lighting crews bring their own equipment?

Crew and gear are mostly separate. We can build gear packages from Peruvian rental houses to go with your crew booking. Some gaffers keep personal gear for smaller shoots.

How many electricians do I need for my production?

Crew size depends on production scale. Small shoots may need just a gaffer. Medium shoots usually need a gaffer plus a best boy and 1-2 electricians. Larger shoots need full departments with rigging crews.

Can your lighting crews work with international DPs?

Yes. Our gaffers work well with global cinematographers and know international terms, techniques, and workflow expectations. Many are fluent in English.

Do you provide generators and power distribution?

We arrange power packs hire and distribution gear through our rental partners. Power packs operators can join your crew package when a shoot needs major power setups.

Productions in Peru that need this often pair it with LED Lighting Systems, Portable Power Solutions, and Grip Services for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Gimbal Filming and Virtual Production.
